Bride Asked Her Sister to Remove Ugly Medical Device for Her Wedding Photos. Did She Deserve the Backlash?

A woman took to Reddit recently to ask if she was being unreasonable for not removing her medical equipment at her sister’s wedding.

The woman, who will be a part of the wedding party as a bridesmaid, is a Type 1 diabetic and thus wears a Dexcom monitor to monitor her blood sugar and an Omnipod insulin pump.

As both devices are worn on the arm, they would be visible in her dress, although they are small and discreet.

The machines are a relief for many people with diabetes as they do not have to prick their fingers and test their blood sugars manually or inject themselves with insulin.

So it is safe to say that it makes life easier for diabetics, but it appears to have been an issue for the bride.

When trying on their wedding dresses, the original poster’s (OP) sister commented that she did not want the medical devices worn during the wedding as they look “ugly” in photos.

When the OP told her sister she did not want to remove them, her sister complained to their mother, despite the OP’s insistence that she would keep them out of shot as much as possible.

Good wedding photographs are more important than the bride’s sister’s health. Thinking that their mom and some friends would support her, the OP was disappointed that they took the bride’s side.

There was talk of moving the devices to the OP’s stomach. Still, she says this is uncomfortable, especially as each new sensor remains in place for ten days.
