Family gatherings are great times for bonding. Yet, when you feed the tribe the food you enjoyed as a kid, you may be met with frowns and groans. Tastes evolve, and there are some types of food you must leave behind (or at least enjoy in secret). A warning for millennials, you will experience this same issue with Gen Zers.
But we’re talking about baby boomers here. So for those of you that are part of this generation. Maybe leave the following off the menu when your kids and grandkids pop over to say “Hi.”

Fish is excellent brain food, but having it in a can suggests you don’t have much to offer for lunch.
Another issue is the awful fish-flavored water at the bottom of the can. That can be enough to stop an appetite.
Bologna sausage

Take all the leftover parts of a chicken, turkey, beef, and pork that nobody needs and mince them all together. Now you have the beloved bologna. It may have been great for sandwiches back in the day, but let’s move on.
What do millennials find so offensive about this kind of meat? Smoked bologna hamburgers are just one of many examples.
Processed cheese

Can this even be classified as cheese, thanks to mixing it with other dairy ingredients? This cheese imitation looks cute in its individually wrapped slices. Yet, the plasticky taste of it leaves one wondering if this is the real deal.
If you want cheese, buy a block of Edam or cheddar and leave the processed variety on the shelf.
Canned vegetables

Vegetables are a staple part of any diet. However, those that are canned need to be left alone. The flavor has been washed away thanks to the water in the can. Also, the color has faded. So now, you are going to cook those in more water?
Come on! You will be serving up something that looks like corn and peas without taste. Millennials prefer to munch on greens that are fresh and tender.
Margarine

Margarine is touted as a healthy butter. It contains unsaturated fats, which are suitable for the body. Yet, the taste of margarine can leave one wondering what is wrong with their sandwich.
You may think you have been doing your child a service using margarine—however, millennials long for the rich, creamy taste of butter.
Spam

This is the meat that has seemingly unlimited longevity. That’s thanks to the amount of salt and preservatives crammed inside the meat. Millennials eye spam with suspicion because meat shouldn’t last as long as spam does.
It was popular just after WWII and was used as a ration during the war. But we have moved on, and so should your meat option.
Fish sticks

Along with vegetables, fish was one of the most challenging food groups to have your kid eat. Fish sticks got around that problem by coating the fish in breadcrumbs. They look adorable, and you can fry them.
Now, consuming processed white fish doesn’t seem as appetizing to millennials anymore. That’s due to the different options available to them nowadays. Sushi, anyone?
Breakfast cereal

Remember when you would have cereal in the morning before heading to school? Those frosty flakes tasted amazing and contained enough sugar to supply you with your daily level of energy.
However, we have been taught to have 5-plus a day of fruit and vegetables. That means that cereal wasn’t the healthiest way to start your day. A bowl of flakes and some milk was a balanced meal? Millennials now want their fruit smoothies in the morning to get them going.
The health kick

Generations have food that defines them, but it doesn’t mean we must keep the tradition going. On the contrary, millennials have been educated about what’s nutritional. Moreover, over the past few decades, there has been a solid vegetarian and vegan push.
If baby boomers still want their canned food, that’s their choice. Yet, when it comes to a family gathering, please put those foods back in the cupboard.
