The Boomer generation, also known as baby boomers, is defined as being born between 1946 to 1964 during the mid-20th century baby boom after WWII. Boomers have benefited from a thriving economy, free education, stable jobs, and adorable homes. However, it is expected that by 2067 the boomer generation will have died out.
In a recent Reddit post, one forum fan asked, ” What things will “die out” or become significantly less popular when the baby boomer generation is no longer around?”
This was a popular post as thousands of people headed to the comments to share their thoughts.

Spam Calling
One of the most popular comments was about spam calls. The comment gained a lot of traction, with some laughing and others pointing out that this is a little harsh on boomers: “There will always be a con game designed to pick off the weakest of the pack. But hopefully, they will always be avoidable for most.”
China Cabinets
Another poster suggested that China cabinets would also leave the world with boomers, with many people commenting on a post that stated, “China cabinets. I’m gen X and was strongly encouraged by my family to put china on my wedding registry long ago.”
One person replied, “People just like collecting stuff and pretending it has value.” Later in the thread, it emerged that it is not only China tableware that is a bone of contention but many other household items.
One Reddit user commented, “Silverplated trays, coffee sets, or silverware. No one wants to polish that stuff every couple of months.”
Cashiers Standing Up
In a strange turn of events, cashier etiquette emerged as something that may disappear when boomers become extinct. One commentator said, “Not allowing cashiers to sit,” and got a lot of comments agreeing that it is odd behavior to expect cashiers not to sit down at any point in their shift.
However, one person commented that this might be a US thing as “This is mostly an American thing. My mind was blown when I went overseas and saw cashiers sitting, and it was normal and not frowned upon in any way.”
Minion Memes
A lot of fun was had when one user said that “Bad minions memes” must go! While one reply asked, “There were good ones?” Lots of others agreed that boomers are bad at memes anyway—cringe!
Smoking
On a more serious note, one person said, “Smoking has gone way down in the past 30 years, and I don’t see how it will pick up.”
While many people shared the same hope, some commented that it doesn’t look like smoking will go away anytime soon, noting that “here in Germany, it’s on the rise again. More than 10% more than two years ago, after declining for decades.”
Other notable mentions on the thread included suits, cable TV, landline phones, voicemail, and newspapers. Some people added serious contemplations: “Buying a home and paying it off in one’s lifetime.”
This does seem to be a worry for current generations. While many thought this thread to be fun, one person commented that “Jokes about boomers” will be no more. All jokes aside, seeing what boomers leave behind will be interesting. However, many of us will not be here to experience that!
