Self-confidence can be a challenging trait to conquer. One look at your fellow women and you are always impressed with their courage. These women seem to have taken life by the horns and are enjoying it. You feel inspired but frustrated because you don’t know where to get that kind of confidence. But don’t worry: you can change.
To help you get started, here are 18 things fearless women do.
I’m Sorry

“Stop apologizing. Almost every woman I know, myself included, apologizes almost constantly for things that aren’t our fault, don’t need apologies, or that someone else should be apologizing to us for. There’s an assumption that women should be meek and accommodating, and if we aren’t, we’re labeled as bossy, moody, rude, etc. Where a man displaying the same behavior is seen as a leader and impressive, it’s endlessly frustrating, and I always am so impressed when I meet a woman who’s been able to shun that assumption and is unapologetic for her own competence.”
How often do you apologize for things that aren’t your fault? Decide to stop!
This Is What I Think

“Don’t be afraid to speak up and be assertive. I work in the corporate world and I’ve seen so many smart women looked over because they are intimidated to speak up and voice their ideas and opinions to men. A lot of them are afraid no one will listen to them or think their ideas are dumb. However, if you never speak up your ideas will never even have the chance to be considered.”
Your opinion and ideas are worth expressing. Don’t be afraid to share them. Who knows? Your input could be the fresh perspective everyone is looking for.
I’m the Top Dog

“Make sure people know you’re in charge. When working on projects, make the planning, and go the extra mile. If you do it a couple of times, you won’t have to fight for dominance anymore.”
This doesn’t give you a ticket to be arrogant and condescending. Yet, be assertive and stand your ground.
Do You Mind?

“Don’t be afraid to speak up when people don’t behave as you want. You’re holding a presentation, and someone’s on their phone? Call them out. Immediately.”
It’s not you who is being rude and ignorant. Don’t be afraid to call out behavior that annoys you.
I’m Not Sure

“Don’t doubt yourself.”
When you start second-guessing your decisions, then people around you may consider you weak and uncertain about yourself. It can be a self-esteem issue. Do some introspection as to why you doubt the decisions you make.
This Is Me

“Just be yourself. Stand for what you believe in.”
People can pick up on that when you pretend to be someone you aren’t. It comes across as unnatural. Being your authentic self is much more comfortable.
Who Cares What Others Think

“Someone who doesn’t seek validation from external sources.”
Many of us allow other people and life to dictate who we should be. Fearless women say, “Forget that.”
Look at What I Have Done

“She is proud of her accomplishments. She has a good understanding of her own abilities. She’s not afraid or anxious to do new things or put herself forward for things.”
Why do we feel ashamed to talk about our successes (and failures for that matter)? Also, build your confidence by stepping out and trying something new.
Today Is Going to Be Great

“A positive attitude! It may seem a little underrated but something about exuding positivity gives me a sense of safety and that they know everything will be okay.”
Psychologists say that our brain is preset to focus on the negatives around us. It’s a protective mechanism that helps us detect threats.
However, if you’re highly negative, it can affect your self-esteem and confidence. Flip the switch and focus more on your life’s positives.
You’re Different

“Having a look that’s not ‘normal’ while looking comfortable is a strong indicator of confidence. Unusual make-up, hairstyle, or fashion that doesn’t fit the typical beauty standards.”
Don’t feel like you have to fit into a stereotypical mold. Allow your uniqueness to shine.
I’ll Ask For Your Help When Needed

“Poise, the ability to function without the need for validation, but also to know when to ask for help.”

“Being able to say no to general things.”
How hard is it for your to say “No” when people ask you for help? Typically our inability to deny requests is out of fear of being disliked.
Take small steps saying “No” and see how people react. You’ll be surprised to learn that most people are fine and still love you. Those that throw a temper tantrum have issues with selfishness.
Don’t Cross This Line
