1. Stick to a Routine
We all lead busy lives, and it’s important to make time for chores like cleaning. Sticking to a set routine will mean that you’re always on top of your cleaning.
2. Use a Checklist
Using a checklist can ensure that you don’t miss out anything in your cleaning routine. It also helps you keep track of which chores need to be done daily, weekly, or monthly.
It’s easy for a home to get cluttered, but this can make cleaning much harder. Dirt and dust can build up behind and around cluttered areas.
4. Make the Bed Every Morning
A well-made bed already makes a bedroom look tidier. It only takes a moment or two, and gets you in a tidying and cleaning mindset!
5. Keep your Space Tidy
A tidy room is much easier to clean than a cluttered one. It’s easier to know where to start, and you can see at a glance which areas might need extra attention.
6. Use Storage (Baskets and Boxes)
Effective de-cluttering and tidying needs storage. Whether it’s a basket for storing living room blankets or finding a container for kitchen utensils, baskets and boxes are a neat and effective way of clearing more space.
7. Spot Clean as You Go
Wiping up spills as soon as they happen will save you a lot of work later. Even though spot cleaning may only take a minute or two, it means that you don’t have to scrub at stubborn stains when your next cleaning time comes around.
8. Spring Clean
While you don’t need to clean out your cupboards and the top of the refrigerator every day or even every week, these chores will need doing. Deep cleans, or “spring cleans” are more time consuming, but it’s an important part of thoroughly cleaning your house.
9. Use a Daily Cleaning Schedule
Cleaning every day is a good way of keeping on top of the housework. You may only need to spend ten or fifteen minutes a day, but it will keep your house fresh and presentable at all times.
10. Do the Dishes Every Night
Washing, drying, and putting dishes away every night isn’t the most attractive chore, but it means that you come down to a fresh and clean kitchen every morning. This gives you the best start to your day.
11. Clean the Shower After Use
Quickly wiping down and drying the shower or bath after you’ve used it may only take a few minutes. This helps keep down mold and hard water stains, and makes cleaning the shower a much easier job.
12. Stay on Top of Laundry
Rather than having an assigned “laundry day” you may find it easier to do small loads several times a week. This will keep the laundry moving, and saves you from running out of clean clothes!
13. Regularly Air Out Rooms
Rooms can quickly become stale and musty, even with regular cleaning. Opening windows and doors for a period of time every day brings in fresh air.
14. Delegate Chores to the Kids
Keeping a house clean is the responsibility of the whole family. Delegating suitable chores to the kids, such as doing the dishes and vacuuming, will free up more time for you. It’s also good for the children to learn how to keep a house clean, and teaches them responsibility.
15. Utilize Cleaning Hacks
Cleaning can be hard work. However, there are plenty of tips, tricks, and hacks available to make your job a little easier. Where you can, organize and streamline your cleaning routine.
16. Avoid Bad Cleaning Habits
If you’re in a rush, you may cut corners or skip certain chores. Occasionally, this isn’t a problem, but if it becomes a habit, the cleanliness of your house will suffer.
17. Organize Your Cleaning “Caddy”
Whether you prefer commercial cleaning products and tools or DIY alternatives, make sure you have enough of your chosen products. If you cleaning caddy or cupboard is well organized, you’ll save time. Hunting around for a duster or a spray bottle is infuriating and means that you’re spending more time on cleaning than is necessary.
18. Have an Area for Coats, Shoes, and Bags
Even if your house is perfect, a pile of shoes, coats, and bags near the doorway will make your home seem cluttered. Use a coat rack, and have an area for shoes and bags in the entryway, if you can.
19. Take Off Your Shoes
Taking off your shoes at the doorway will keep floors clean for longer. This is an especially good tip if you have carpets.
20. Use an Air Freshener
While an air freshener or deodorizer certainly doesn’t replace good cleaning habits, a quick spritz can give your house a fresh and pleasant smell. This will be the first thing people notice when they enter your home – how good it smells!
