Hot Dogs
Cheap hotdogs are sometimes filled with mechanically separated meats, which means all of the offcuts have been pressed out of the carcass once all of the good meat has been removed. The ‘meat’ is then pureed and made into a ‘delicious’ hotdog.
Coffee Creamer
Many coffee creamers don’t have any cream in them and are instead made up of water, sugar, and vegetable oil, urrgh!
Canned Fruit
You may not bother checking the ingredients in fruit cans as you assume that fruit is healthy but if you pay attention to the label you will see that you are eating a little bit of fruit and a whole lot of sugar.
Marshmallows
Huge, fluffy marshmallows look good and taste even better but did you know that they contain gelatin which is made of animal skin and tendons? I take it you will pass on the next S’more?
Store-Bought White Bread
Supermarket bread can often contain azodicarbonamide which is used to bleach the flour. Bleaching flour is a practice used in the baking industry to create finer flour to give fluffier bread.
Chicken Nuggets
A lot of fast-food chicken nuggets contain very little chicken as they include a lot of cartilage, fat, and nerves in the ‘meat’.
Fruit Juice
You probably don’t think twice about pouring a glass of fresh fruit juice at breakfast but many ‘healthy’ juices actually contain up to 25% sugar in each glass.
Swordfish
Some fish, such as swordfish and tilefish contain high levels of mercury which is poisonous if consumed in large quantities.
Salami
As well as being high in saturated fats, salami contains sodium nitrites, which can be harmful to our cardiovascular health and has been linked to some cancers.
Sugar Coated Candies
Some hard candies have a shellac coating which is what gives them their shine. The shellac is actually resin from the lac bug which means you are eating bugs alongside your candy!
Diet Sodas
Diet sodas contain aspartame, which is an artificial sugar that adds sweetness to sodas in place of sugar. Aspartame can raise glucose levels thus it has the opposite effect that people want when it comes to losing weight.
Packaged Donuts
Store-bought donuts are very high in trans fats which are harmful to our cardiovascular health as they raise cholesterol. If you are going to eat a donut choose a donut from a bakery.
Processed Cheese
Unfortunately, you won’t find a whole lot of cheese in processed cheese as it is filled out with emulsifiers and additives. Some processed cheese slices cannot actually be called cheese!
Read-Made Frosting
Ready-made frosting may taste delicious but it contains a lot of sugar alongside carcinogenic food coloring such as titanium dioxide.
Energy Drinks
Alongside sugar and high levels of caffeine, energy drinks contain high levels of taurine which is a stimulant that can harm the body after long-term use.
Margarine
Margarine is lauded for being better than butter but it actually contains trans fats which are harmful to our heart health.

Cheap alternatives to maple syrup contain high-fructose corn syrup which, when eaten frequently, can be harmful to the liver.
Bright Colored Cereal
Cereals and drinks that are brightly colored contain a lot of artificial colorings which can lead to hyperactivity, especially in children.
