A recently-engaged couple went out for dinner to commemorate their upcoming wedding, only for the night to turn bad over a four-legged family member.
A Few Bad Experiences.

The man explains how his fiancé has a 5-year-old golden retriever mix and mentions that he’s had some “bad experiences” with dogs in the past. However, this dog isn’t a threat.
“Her dog is very friendly, and he gets all the attention from my fiancé. She denied some jobs that won’t let her work from home because she worries about the dog. I work from home three days a week, and she only texts asking how the dog is.”
He Planned A Magical Weekend For Them.

It was supposed to be the perfect celebration. “I planned this nice trip last weekend to celebrate our engagement. I booked a nice hotel and made reservations at a nice restaurant. One of our close friends stayed with the dog. My fiancé asked her to text with an update every two hours. I did my best to make it a wonderful weekend.”
They Missed Their Table Reservations.

Owing to his fiancé’s obsession with the dog, they lost their table and had to wait for another.
“We had reservations for 7 PM at the restaurant. My fiancé didn’t get ready until 6:40, as she hadn’t heard from the sitter. When we arrived at the restaurant, we had to wait 30 minutes for a table to open.”
She Was On Her Phone The Whole Night.

Instead of celebrating their new journey as a soon-to-be-wed couple, the woman’s mind was on other things.
“When we sat down, my fiancé spent the entire dinner on her phone trying to get ahold of the friend.”
He Walked Out.

Disheartened by this behavior, the man had seen enough.
“I paid for the meal and got up from the table, telling her I would wait in the car. She came out 20 minutes later screaming at me for leaving her at the table alone.”

By now, the evening was well and truly ruined, and the man let his partner have a piece of his mind.
“I yelled back that she ruined our engagement trip by putting the dog over us. We sat in the car in silence all the way home and she’s thinking about going to stay with her parents.”

But before the silent treatment began, she called him unpleasant for leaving the restaurant.
So he headed to an online community to ask if she was right.

While it’s sweet that she loves her pup so much, her etiquette is a little extreme. One commenter said: “Two-hour updates? I wouldn’t even agree to watch someone’s dog with that nonsense. I don’t even ask for 2-hour updates about my kids. Lol. I’ve only ever asked for updates about my dog frequently when he ate poppy seeds once, and I had promised my children the beach.”

Other commenters noted that the man must have already been aware of his partner’s overprotectiveness of the dog.
“Did she only suddenly become this attached to her 5-year-old dog? Did he think proposing to her would somehow change how much her dog meant to her? Is he seriously jealous of her dog? I think they both dodged a bullet. I’m going with ESH [everyone sucks here] because they should’ve broken up long before anyone proposed.”
