We all have our little secrets… But we might have more of them in common than we think. Here are 16 things that we all do, but don’t want anyone else to know about. How many do you do?
Pick Our Nose
Come on, admit it. We’ve all done it! Sometimes you might not have a tissue available and you just have to clear your nose out somehow. We all pick our noses, some more than others. So next time you do it, don’t feel so embarrassed. Hey, at least we don’t (all) eat it too.
Judge Others
As much as we might not like to admit it, even to ourselves, we all judge others. We judge people we know, and even those we don’t, based on the things they do, how they look, and any other reason we can think of. We might not want to admit this because it can be unkind to judge others, and it’s not a part of ourselves that we’re proud of, but at the end of the day, it’s human nature.
Compare Ourselves To Others
While we judge others, we also compare ourselves to them. We always think the grass is greener on the other side and that someone else has it better than us. Social media makes this even easier and more irresistible to do. On social media, we see a highlight reel of other people’s lives and think their lives are more fun and exciting than our own.
But ultimately, we don’t know what anyone else’s lives are like behind closed doors. We should focus on our own lives and what makes us happy, but it’s ok if sometimes you give in to comparison.
Make Up Excuses To Get Out Of Socialising
Something no one wants others to know about is the fact that we all make up excuses to avoid or get out of social gatherings we’ve been invited to. Have you been known to ‘feel unwell’ or been asked to ‘babysit your niece’ just before a big event? The truth is you just don’t want to go.
Maybe you’re too tired or you’ve had a bad day at work and you can’t face all that socialising. For some reason, we just don’t feel able to tell our friends the truth so we make up a white lie to get out of it.
Is it because we feel better if our friends believe we have a ‘valid excuse’ for not coming? Sometimes honesty doesn’t always feel like the best policy.
Leave Texts Unread
Picture this. You see from your lock screen that you’ve received a text from your friend. You can read most of what it says, but you don’t feel like replying or you’re just too busy to get to it right now. So you leave it and remind yourself to read the text properly later. Sound familiar?
Sometimes we just don’t want to get back to someone right away so we leave texts unread so that the person who sent it doesn’t know we received it. It’s something we all do, just don’t forget to text back later.
Pass Gas
For some of us, it’s embarrassing and for others, it’s just downright hilarious!
Most of the time passing gas will get a laugh out of the people around you unless you’re really sneaky about it and no one can tell! So it’s understandable that some people will try and hold it for as long as possible and deny that they would ever do such a thing. However, some people are more open about the fact they pass gas. And others have been known to say that they actually enjoy the smell!
Look In The Toilet
We all have to go for a number two, but do we all have to look in the toilet after it? One commenter online says there’s a reason that they do it. “You have to know your body!” they say. This might be true, but a lot of us don’t want people to know that we look in the toilet after we go.
Scream When You’re Alone
Life can be stressful sometimes! You’re not alone if sometimes you sit in your car or empty room and scream out at the top of your lungs. There are lots of ways to relieve stress and sometimes this can be a good option. But we don’t always want other people to know this about us. We’d rather other people think we were perfect, but don’t feel ashamed if you do this. You’re not the only one!
Use The Five-second Rule
Do you ever drop a piece of food on the floor and quickly pick it up and eat it? Yep, we all do. But not everyone will admit it. And let’s be honest. Some people will go a lot further than five seconds! Often we don’t even care about how dirty the floor is. Gross? Maybe. Wasteful? Definitely not.
Social Media Stalk
Most of us love a social media stalk. You can learn a lot about a person by looking up their social media platforms. Sometimes we do it when we’re interested in someone and we want to learn more about them before making a move. Or perhaps we want to look up an ex or a former friend and see what they’re up to.
One thing’s for sure, we don’t want them to know we’re doing this as it could appear very creepy and embarrassing! Best to keep this one a secret!
Pee in the Shower
A commenter on a popular forum says, ‘There are two types of people in this world: People who pee in the shower, and LIARS!’
It’s convenient, and we’re washing it down the drain anyway. Peeing in the shower is a victimless crime, but still something we don’t always want others to know about.
Blow Your Nose and then Look At it
This is similar to the toilet situation and something we all do from time to time. Whether it’s just checking out of curiosity or to see if your nose is looking healthy, this is a habit many of us aren’t stopping any time soon.
Has a Dance Party at Home
There’s nothing more fun when you’re home alone than turning up the music and dancing your heart out. It really adds new meaning to the phrase ‘dance like no one’s watching!’
If anybody knocked on the door, we’d almost certainly pretend we’d been doing something else, but secretly we love our dance parties.
Imagine a Zombie Apocalypse
Have you ever imagined what would happen to you and your friends if there was a zombie apocalypse? Who would be the fiery leader and who would be the first to die? If you have, you’re not the only one. It’s good fun and hey, you’ve got to be prepared if it happens!
Have Imaginary Arguments with Yourself – And Win!
Lots of people share on a popular online forum that when they are alone or in the shower, they hold arguments with themselves in their heads. They come up with the perfect responses, and then they win! Or they practice a difficult conversation they’ll have with someone else, thinking about new and better arguments until they feel like they’re going to win. Or at least they’ve won in their mind!
Imagine You’re in a Music Video
For many of us, listening to music acts as a fun escape. When we’re sitting on a bus or a train listening to music, we look out of the window and fantasize that we’re dancing in a music video or kissing a gorgeous backup dancer. It’s great fun and only just a little embarrassing if someone finds out!
