A woman and her Personal Protection Dog (PPD) were stopped on their run by a strange man who tried to grab her dog’s leash, leading to a feud with the man’s wife and breed-specific bans on the agenda for the next homeowner’s meeting, leaving the woman wondering if she was wrong to call out the man publicly.
One Woman and Her Dog

Since moving to her suburban neighborhood six months ago, a woman and her Dutch Shepherd, Oaken, have been enjoying their daily runs in the park and pond area. One of the main reasons the woman moved to this area was to enjoy this private and safe park. It was part of the private gated community so the woman felt much safer enjoying her daily runs here.
The Interruption

However, one evening, their peaceful jog was interrupted by a strange man on a bike who stopped them on the path, claiming to have lost his keys in the grass and asking if the woman had seen them, before making small talk and asking about her dog. The woman never worried too much when people approached her as she had trained Oaken, her protection dog, to assess all situations for her.
The Dog Growled

Though Oaken didn’t display any aggressive behavior at first, the man’s persistence and attempt to grab Oaken’s leash led to the dog growling and showing his teeth. The woman acted quickly moving back from the strange man. She had no idea what this guys motives were but with Oaken alerting her to danger she made sure to get out of there quickly.

This caused the woman to leave and later post on the Neighborhood app about the encounter, reminding others not to grab at someone’s dog or leash without permission. She didn’t know who the strange guy was but didn’t want other women to feel unsafe in the park if they were going out there. The woman was very fortunate that she had a well trained dog but if the guy was bold enough to grab at someones large dog who knows what he was capable of.
An ”Aggressive” Dog

However, the man’s wife recognized her husband in the post and has since been spreading rumors about the woman and her “aggressive attack dog,” leading to a letter from the HOA and breed-specific bans on the agenda for the next homeowner’s meeting. The woman was taken aback by this reaction. Why is this wife standing up for her husband when he was the one in the wrong for stopping a lone woman and grabbing at her dog?

This has left the woman wondering if she was wrong to call out the man publicly and feeling sad that her new community has the wrong impression of her and her dog. The woman felt she had to rectify this situation for herself and her dog. She didn’t think it was fair that all these lies were now spreading round the neighborhood when they didn’t have the full scale of the story.
The Confession

Despite feeling conflicted, the woman decides to talk to an officer about the incident and files a report. The police officers know the man the woman is referring to and opt to go round to his home and speak to him. This leads to the man admitting to chatting her up but denying he was trying to detain her, which the woman found an odd thing to say. The officers giving him a stern warning to stay away from her in the future, whilst reminding him that the situation could have ended a lot worse had he touched the woman or her dog more aggressively.
No Motions

With everything now on record, the woman plans to send a preemptive letter to the HOA with the police report attached, hoping to clear her and Oaken’s name and prevent any breed-specific motions from being passed. The woman knows her personal protection dog is not dangerous or aggressive, that he was just reacting in the way he was trained to do. She didn’t want the community to feel scared or worried about her dog, as he was usually well behaved.
