Have you ever been cut off while driving? It’s an unsettling experience and can result in some pretty heated exchanges. That’s precisely what happened to one Reddit user. But instead of just getting mad, OP decided to get even and take petty revenge.
The incident occurred on the way to HEB, a popular grocery store chain in Texas. OP was driving their truck when a BMW flew off the highway and cut them off. OP had to hit the brakes and swerve out of the way to avoid a collision.
But the BMW driver wasn’t done yet. They cut back into OP’s lane and almost hit them again. When they both pulled into the parking lot at HEB, the BMW driver even cut OP off on foot as he was walking to the store.
OP was understandably upset, but instead of letting it go, they decided to get a little revenge.
The BMW driver, wearing a vendor shirt and carrying a tablet, set the tablet down on top of a freezer and walked away. OP circled the aisle three times and then decided to take action.
After waiting five minutes, OP picked up the tablet and handed it off to a nearby employee, telling them that someone had left it in the aisle. The employee took the tablet to the front of the store while OP walked away.
Of course, the BMW driver eventually realized his tablet was missing and started to freak out. But OP just walked away, satisfied that they had gotten a little bit of revenge for being cut off multiple times.
OP has been applauded for his actions in the thread, with redditors offering creative hypothetical solutions.
“The truly malicious imp in me was thinking… just push the tablet a little bit so it goes back behind the cooler. Lost for the rest of eternity (or until they figure out how to get behind the cooler), either way, that works… of course, that would also put it a bit beyond petty.”
“It’s good not to steal it, but if something like that happens again, have you considered putting it in the frozen foods case?”
“Awesome, although my petty self would have taken it with me out the door and popped it under his car – he can either think he hallucinated taking it into the store and find it when he goes back to check his car or maybe just maybe he reverses over it because he didn’t notice, oops!”
While others have been surprised that’s all OP did!
“He’s lucky that’s all you did with it!! Good on you.”
“You are nicer than me. I would have put the tablet under the frozen pizzas.”
I’m sure we’ve all witnessed aggressive driving at some point in our lives, and while it’s easy to get caught up in the moment and react angrily, OP’s story reminds us that for every action, there is always a consequence. OP’s act of petty revenge was harmless and deemed by all of the commentators as the rational response to the situation, with some even wishing they had taken action at similar times!
“When my wife and I worked in the same office, FedEx and UPS would come in regularly. One afternoon it was just my wife in the office, past 3:30, when she usually went home. A UPS guy came up the stairs and was hollering out UPS. My wife went out there and said oh, you’re lucky I was still here. I usually leave at 3:30. UPS guy looked her right in the face. It says don’t mean anything to me tossed the package on the desk and left. She told me about it that night, and I was sort of annoyed that he was so disrespectful. Well, the very next day I had run over to Wendy’s to grab some food, and I saw that very same UPS driver having what looked like a big-time argument or something on his cell phone, pacing around right outside the door. When I entered the door, I saw his UPS tablet laying on a table. Pretty sure that losing that would be a big deal. Not going to lie. I wanted to grab it up and then chuck it out the window into the ditch on the way back to the office. So, I didn’t do it, but sometimes I think I should have.”
Some might deem OP’s actions petty, while others will say it’s karmic retribution.
What would you call it?
