A new mom has asked if she was wrong for cutting ties with her father-in-law after he started acting bizarrely while she was breastfeeding.
She Was Starting to Think Something Was Wrong
Evidence has been mounting up that this woman’s father-in-law has a strange fixation with breastmilk.
“I have a 7-month-old baby boy. I’m breastfeeding, but the baby is currently weaning. I’m convinced that my FIL is being weird about my breastfeeding and not in a ‘that makes me uncomfortable’ way.”
Weaning Tactics
During this process, the woman is gently urging her son to eat solids while still using up her milk.
“I made the baby popsicles from my milk a few months ago and FIL put in the group chat that ‘I’d love to try one of those’ with a hearts-as-eyes emoji. I said, ‘What??? They’re made from breastmilk,’ and he said he didn’t notice that caption.”
She Made It Clear The Food Was For The Baby
“Today, I baked the baby some muffins. It’s a recipe that called for a half cup of breastmilk, so I made them per recipe. FIL came over unannounced and said, ‘Oh yum, someone’s been baking,’ so I told him, ‘Those muffins are for the baby. They’re just fruit, flour, and breast milk. I have a normal cake we can have.’”
He Helped Himself
This is where things start to get creepy.
“I then left the room to wash my hands and came back, and one of the muffins was missing. I asked my husband, and he had no idea, so I asked FIL and he said that he ate it. I said that’s disgusting; I told him they were the babies and contained breastmilk. He doubled down and said it’s okay because ‘breastmilk is vegan’ (note, no one in this story is vegan). I told him he’s a creepy man and to get the hell out of my house.”
He Can’t See The Issue
Her husband believed it was all some sort of miscommunication, whereas the father-in-law flat-out doesn’t think he’s done anything wrong.
“Husband is baffled by the whole thing and was convinced it was a misunderstanding, even though I explicitly said they’re made with breastmilk. FIL said I’m wrong because I’d made loads, and the baby wouldn’t miss out.”
A Bizarre Turn Of Events
Family members are ruffled by this incident.
“MIL was blowing up my phone until I asked her if she was really ok with FIL drinking milk that came directly from my breast. I think she didn’t get the whole story. My sisters say it’s gross, and FIL is a weirdo.”
It Gets Weirder
The woman unearthed some rather disturbing information. “I called MIL to ‘clear the air’ and she revealed that FIL has always been ‘very interested’ in lactation and she actually only fed her son (my husband) for 4 months and always behind a locked door! Apparently, he moved jobs after a woman complained that he kept intruding on her pumping in a designated space in the office.”
Creepy Obsession
It’s apparent that the man has a nursing obsession. “I’ve told them FIL is not welcome around me and have asked for the key to our house back. I shared the concerns about him tampering with my milk (and contaminating it) and also that if his own wife wanted him locked out, then I’m entitled to that too.”
Fractured Relationships
In light of this bizarre revelation, family members have taken a step back from their father-in-law.
“The comment that hit my husband was the one about FIL getting off for years on the memory of eating the baby muffin. Husband said he won’t be able to look FIL in the eye again.”
So Many Shades Of Wrong
The woman shared this twisted tale with an online community to ask if she was being too harsh by cutting the father-in-law out of her life.
One member said: “Even if these were totally normal muffins without breastmilk, and she said to him, please do not eat these, and then he ate one, he would be wrong. The added layer of obviously being fixated on her breastmilk is just an extra ew gross yuck element to this situation.”
Lack Of Consent And Boundaries
Users pointed out that while lactating fetishes (rare as they are) aren’t harmful – the lack of consent and respect is.
“I wouldn’t want to be in the same room as someone like him. Not for the kink itself, but because he’s using non-consenting participants.” Another user agreed: “That’s just it. If that’s his thing, then…um…OK. But this is his daughter-in-law, which makes it 100% inappropriate.”
Creepy And Disrespectful
This story is a lot to unpack mentally. We’ll end it on this note from a user: “Regardless of whether you think drinking breastmilk is weird or not, that is a personal decision and entirely up to the person who produced it.
I know families where anytime the baby is fed breastmilk that was pumped into a bottle, the person doing the feeding tries some first to check the temperature – a bit different obviously, but that’s their regular. But when OP [original poster] explicitly said no, twice, this is a weird thing to do. Major red flag and I’m just glad OP stood up for herself and kicked him out, as I expect a lot of people would just shut down and not know how to respond.”
