Looking for a way to get your child to communicate and interact with you on a daily basis? Here are some great questions for kids that can help with just that!
As a parent, we all know the struggles. Even on days when our kids are away from us at school or a friend’s house, there’s minimal talking when they come home.
More than likely, you’re like me and asking questions such as “How was school?” (to which the answer is “fine”) or “What did you learn today?” (to which the answer is “nothing”)…but as parents, we aren’t fooled. We KNOW that something happened in school and we know that our kids didn’t learn nothing that day…but how do we go about cracking the code to get the conversation flowing? Aside from utilizing some of these positive affirmations for kids, we can also keep them encouraged and confident by making conversations open.

We start by asking better questions to our kids
In order to get our children talking to us, we have to ask them questions that they want to talk about. Not exactly rocket science, right? But why do we continue to put ourselves out there as parents to keep getting shut down by their answers?
Let’s all agree right now that we’ll start questioning our kids in a way that they have to give more than one-word answers. Deal? Deal.
What would you do questions for kids
Some of the best questions for kids are situational type questions. And this can honestly be as wacky or far out there as you want. Have fun with these type of questions because the more wild and crazy that they are, the more your child is probably going to play along.
Ever wonder how you can teach your kids positive mindsets? These positive affirmations for kids are amazing for that!
Example questions for kids would be:
- What would you do if you lost your school lunch money on the way to school?
- Would you rather ride your bicycle for 50 miles or run for 10 miles?
- What would you do if you were face to face with a lion?
- If you were to wake up tomorrow morning and the sun was missing, what would you do?
- What would you do if all the candy in the world was eliminated?
- Would you eat Brussel sprouts every day for a month if you were told you’d be given a special prize at the end?
- What would you do if you were walking to school and your shoes just suddenly fell apart?
- How would you react if you woke up and realized that I’d sold all your toys while you were sleeping?
- What would you do if I traded in our car for a horse and buggy?
- Would you rather swim to school or run to school?
- What would you do if you woke up to find a kitten sitting on your bed?
And while a couple of those questions might leave the door open for them to give one-word answers, it still gets the brain flowing in a way that it’s unlikely that they will.
The questions are fun and silly but also put forth in a way that they are going to stop and make them talk. And after all, isn’t that the entire point?

How do I encourage my child to ask questions?
This is important! If you’re wanting to show your child that it’s great to speak up and ask questions, encourage them to think of their own questions to ask. This can be as simple as writing down questions on a piece of paper and trying them out on you.
Offer assistance only when they need it so they don’t feel like you’re taking over and taking control. Teach your child that asking questions creates curiosity and can give them answers and peace of mind about certain subjects as well.

When should kids ask questions?
Honestly, there’s never a perfect time for anything. If your child is curious about something, encourage them to ask questions. As you’re showing them, asking questions opens up so much more opportunity to learn and get to know someone.
And if they don’t ever ask their questions, they’ll never get an answer to what they’re wanting to know. There’s nothing worse than wanting to know an answer to something and never getting the chance to ask the question. Teach them not to miss out on information and opportunities just because they were too afraid to ask.
When it comes to figuring out questions for kids, you really can’t go wrong. While there are plenty of questions littered throughout this post, make certain to put your own spin on it and take control!
Questions can be silly, serious, probing or just downright wacky. And if you find that you’ve hit a wall with communicating with your child, it’s time to try out a new approach. These questions for kids may be just what you need!
