Although it may seem easier to just serve some basic chocolate chip cookies or brownies at your next tailgate, these are way more impressive! Making decorated sugar cookies like these doesn’t have to be difficult. If you aren’t a professional baker selling cookies for a living, there is no reason to stress and strive for perfection.
Since these don’t require any extremely intricate design, they are a great cookie for getting the kids involved! Even if they just help with the sprinkles, inviting your kids to help in the kitchen is some of the best bonding time you can get!

How Do You Make Football Sugar Cookies?
These are going to be pretty similar to any sugar cookies you have made in the past. There are of course some differences in making the decorative stadium, but for the most part, these are fairly simple!
First, you’ll want to mix together your margarine, sugar, eggs and vanilla extract in one bowl.
In a second bowl, combine the dry ingredients. This will be the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt. Mix these ingredients together well. Then, you’ll want to mix the wet and dry ingredients together.
After your wet and dry ingredients are mixed well into a nice moist dough, you’ll need to let your dough chill in the fridge for 4 hours. By chilling the dough before forming your cookies, it will be much easier to work with and bake better.
When you chill cookie dough, the fat from the butter solidifies. This makes it take longer to melt again than if it were room temperature. Because of this, your cookies won’t spread as quickly or as much during baking.
This is a great tip to keep in mind when making shaped cookies with cookie cutters. If you want them to keep their shape upon baking, you will need to chill your dough prior!
After 4 hours, preheat your oven to 375. Remove your dough from the fridge and flour a surface for rolling. Roll the dough to 1/4 inch thick. Use a round cookie cutter (or the top of any glass works well) and cut out circle shapes.
Place on a baking mat or greased cookie sheet and bake for 10 minutes. Allow the finished cookies to cool completely.
While these cool, melt your white candy melts and place in a Ziploc bag or piping bag. Cut the tip of the Ziploc (if using).
On parchment paper, pipe out a wide Y shape, like a field goal. Allow these to set while you decorate your cookies.
Frost the top half of your cookies in vanilla frosting. Dip this half into your round sprinkles. Then, frost the bottom half with green frosting. Sprinkle green sugar sprinkles over the bottom half.
Place one field goal on top of each cookie and there you have it! Delicious football sugar cookies in minutes!
